Seats

The majority of triple buggies start life as single pushchairs, although some can convert to take the seat of a second person or carrycot with adapters (these are usually more common in tandem buggies). You'll also see that some models allow you to add a ride-on board for older children who would like to walk but still need some assistance.

Check out the Joie Evalite Duo for an ultra-lightweight option that is perfect for urban streets. It is easy to maneuver and comes with a large basket that is full of storage. It can hold twins from birth and accept two car seats or a carrycot and seat. The seats have to face toward the forward direction and there isn't room to store an item under the seat. You will need a sidepack.

Mountain Buggy Duet will be the best choice If you like off-road driving. It's a side-byside model with the smallest footprint of any double buggy on the market. It's much easier to get through narrow doors on public transport, and to climb up and over kerbs. It also has a handbrake on the handlebar that can be adjusted for more security and safety.

Another option that is lightweight is the UPPAbaby Vista 2 Double that can be used to accommodate twins or a toddler and baby. The seats are multi-positional reclining with UPF 50plus sunshades. It's a true all terrain pushchair, with a soft suspension to make light work of bumpy surfaces. The phil&teds dot is a fantastic single buggy that is available from day one that is able to easily be adapted to take 2 (or 3 wheel double stroller!) different configurations. This is especially useful if you have an infant in a car seat, since the frame can be fitted with a wedgie for optimum lie-flat positioning, or car seat adapters to various brands.

Suspension

The suspension of a triple wheeled buggy will determine the ease with which you and your child/children can push it. A smooth ride is crucial as babies can feel every bump on the road, especially when it's in rough terrain such as grass or dirt roads. Some models also have locking front wheels to assist with maneuvering and getting over obstacles such as curbs.

Some models use air-filled tyres, which give you a great all-terrain adventure, but they could be prone to punctures therefore, make sure you have spares in the trunk. Some models have gel-filled or foam-filled tyres which are designed to absorb bumps. They can be less likely to puncture, however they may cause discomfort for your child if you choose to jog.

Folding

It's the most compact side-by-side double on the market. It also has some impressive technology, including LED lights for visibility which are located on each side of its frame to improve safety during low-light conditions.

Its clever frame expands widthways to accommodate the extra seat, yet it weighs about 11kg so it's easy to lift and maneuver. It can be used with the car seat, a carrycot or both.
