Path of Exile Item Upgrading

The best way to upgrade your gear in Path of Exile is through item upgrades. This lets you improve it without having to depend on costly drops or trades. This article will show you how to upgrade your items.

Upgrades to equipment provide an increase in the item's stats. This bonus scales with the upgrade component level and rarity.

Components

Upgrade components make your armour and weapons better. You can acquire them by the destruction of enemies, finding them in item spheres or buying them from karma dealers. They can also be rescued from equipment that has them, or through an advanced salvage kit like the Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. In contrast to other items, upgrade components are not destroyed when removed from an item upgrader kit.

The primary function of upgrade components is to allow an item to be upgraded however, they also serve other functions. They can be stacked to boost the level or experience gained by upgrading existing equipment or weapons. They can be made for additional bonuses. For example, a crafted glyph will boost the chance of upgrading its target, whereas the boost upgrade can boost the defense or attack property of a weapon, or armor.

Selecting an upgrade template from the GUI will allow you to connect it to an item. It will display an upgrade component list that the item can be upgraded to. You can also use the workbench to selecting an upgrade template. In either scenario, an item will be upgraded when enough upgrade components have been collected.

Each component is assigned an experience multiplier. This determines how much experience an item can gain when upgraded with that component. For instance, organic components have a an experience multiplier that is higher than mechanical ones. It is recommended to upgrade organic components first until you reach the next level in the weapon or equipment, then switch to mechanical upgrades.

Each item comes with an upgrade limit number that it is possible to receive. The number of items that can be upgraded is determined by their upgradeable rank, and the type of upgrade they can receive. For instance, the highest possible weapon upgrade is a tier 10 weapon.
